I graduated in medicine from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) in 1989. M.Sc. in Medicine (Neurosurgery) from the Federal University of São Paulo (1999), and Doctorate in Neurosciences from the Federal University of São Paulo (2005). Fellowship at Columbia University; Presbyterian Hospital – New York in 1995 and 1996. Since 2004 has coordinated the Multidisciplinary Academic League of Neurology-Neurosurgery. Coordinator of the CNPq research group on Clinical Studies and Basic Models of Spinal Cord Diseases and the Laboratory of Spinal Cord Diseases. Dean of the Medical School at the University of Caxias do Sul since 2008. In May 2011, the Dr.Virvi Ramos Award from the City Council of Caxias do Sul for Services rendered to Health in the Municipality. Councilor of Regional Council of Medicine of Rio Grande do Sul since 2013. Research Regional Office 2012-2015 and AO Spine Latin America Regional Board Chairman 2015-2019. Member of the Ethics Committee of the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery for the 2014-2016 term. Member of the Editorial Board of the University of Caxias do Sul since 2014. Scientific secretary of the Rio Grande do Sul Neurology & Neurosurgery Society. Member of Editorial Board of the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine. Chair of the AO Spine International Board since 2021. Vice-President of the Caxias do Sul University since 2022.
